Showing Dogs can be very rewarding to the owner and fun too.It might look glamorous and sometimes the rewards are minimal but what you do get can be cherished forever.So, if you’ve put all that time into the agility course or the calendar shows and have put alot of effort into bringing home the ribbons how would it feel to your dismay to find out that your pooch likes to eat those hard earned Ribbons.
No need to Quit what you love doing or get rid of your prize show dog.Sit down a have a little talk with rover and explain to him or her how important it is that we keep it in one piece.Patience and persistence Training your dog with good dog agility and eating habits might help in this area.
Make Them Taste Beyond Foul
In the meantime, before you can trust your dog around dog show ribbons, try and keep them away from his hungry mouth. This is not always possible. What you can do is try to discourage your dog from putting his mouth on them by spraying your dog show ribbons with noxious stuff called bitter apple spray. It’s harmless, but horrible. It’s usually sold as “training sprays” to get puppies to not chew the furniture.
The “Leave It” Command
Sometimes even bitter apple won’t deter a hungry dog. Somehow, eating dog show ribbons has been associated as a pleasurable activity that fulfills some kind of yet unknown need. If he’s going to eat dog show ribbons, he’s likely to eat more dangerous things like chocolate bars, rocks or children’s toys.
You need to train him to drop what’s in his mouth and not pick it up again. This is called the “leave it” command, but some trainers use the keywords “thank you” while others use “Drop it!” This takes a long time to learn. A lot of trainers recommend you train bit by bit. leading up to eventually having him drop whatever is in his mouth when he hears the command.
Get something for your dog to chew besides The Ribbons maybe a Nylabone,rawhide bone or toy.Here’s a little test ,Put a dog show ribbon on a nose level table and when he or she gets close or puts their nose on the ribbon you would say in a no-nonsence voice,”Leave IT!”When My dog won’t let go ,Ive leaned down and growled at him like a dog would and he usually lets go.Once he or she lets go ,Its great to give imediate praise and give them something to chew on that you have selected as a treat.Eventually training your dog with the proper dog obedience will make dog show ribbons stay off the menu!

Good dog agility is important to increasing a dogs speed and flexability and just like with humans we all want to feel more confident and balanced and our dogs deserve the same treatment were capable of getting.Agility Training as far as a sport ,is one of the fastest growing and relatively new dog activities in the world.The Dog owners are happy taking extra time out with their pets and look forward to being involved in every detail.
History of Agility Training for Dogs
Agility training for dogs started sometime in the late 1970s in England, where it somewhat copied horse show jumping.Both agility training for dogs and horse jumping build a strong bond between the owner and the animal. They also help to develop strategy and teamwork. You win an agility event with your dog by completing the course in the quickest time with the fewest confinment of faults. It is very similar again to horse jumping when the horse knocks down one of the poles of the fence.
Positive Advantages for Dogs
Another benefit of agility training for dogs is the mental effect it has on shy dogs and owners. Both often show a renewed confidence after successfully negotiating an agility obstacle course. Many dogs improve their coordination dramatically by completing the basic training exercises used to teach jumping and ramp work.
For those hyperactive dogs, agility training provides them with a method of releasing some of that extra energy in a positive manner. The mental workout for the dog is often greater for the dog than the physical one. The teamwork that the sport builds between the owner and the animal builds a level of communication between the two that is very similar to how humans communicate.
To make a great team in agility training, your dog and yourself must be in perfect sync, since there is no leash or
collar allowed on a agility course. The order of obstacles is different on each course and the pathway twists and turns,so the dog, to be successful, has to learn a whole new vocabulary.
Puppies
As quick as four months, small dog agility courses can be used in training a dog as small as a puppy and regular walks of at least two miles are recommended as they grow.It’s also important that these dogs do not fall and injure themselves on an a-frame or a dog walk and should not be rushed through the obstacles on the course at to quick of a rate of speed.To help with injurys and to maintain traction, cross-laths are installed on ramps so to minimize any accidents.For the dog who is afraid of heights, the owner will coax through the uncertainty and by doing so will help his dog and himself.
